Albin Raj, Namitha Lizabeth and Vyshak K, doing their final year MCJ (Master of Communication and Journalism) here are selected for the Trainee Journalist final interview. The date and time of interview will be intimated shortly. 58 final year students from various UG and PG programmes including MCJ, MCom, MSW, MA English Literature, BA English Literature, BCom and BSc Mathematics had appeared for the written test on October 25, 2016. Of these, 12 students were shortlisted for Group Discussion and Camera test held on December 13, 2016. Hearty Congratulations to the candidates selected.


As part of the Extension Services broadening the mindset of students, instilling in them social intelligence, and shaping in them a well-formed social conscience, students from the Department of Mathematics (BSc) visited Sneha Bhavan, an Old Age Home in Charal, four kilometers from Angadikadavu, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. The students, accompanied by the staff, celebrated Christmas around the inmates cutting the cake and singing songs. Students then washed their clothes, cleaned and mopped their residential area and the premises around. They collected firewood for traditional cooking in the kitchen. They also sponsored the provisions required for their Christmas celebration. Commenting on the experience, one of the Faculty Members Dona Thomas said, “Students did everything happily. It was their initiative. They were very enthusiastic throughout the extension programme.”


The third year U.G. students at Don Bosco Arts & Science College staying at Savio Home made a bund across Vaniyapara stream flowing though the campus on 11th December, 2016 as a precautionary measure countering the drought likely to occur due to shortage of rain this year. “It was primarily done to let more water seep into the soil which will eventually result in the increase of groundwater. The water level in the nearby wells also can be kept at a steady pace with this bund (Thadayana),” said Fr. Abhilash P., Savio Home Warden.


The students doing their postgraduate programme in Journalism and Mass Communication (MCJ) along with the Faculty Members are in Thiruvananthapuram for the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) being held from December 9 to 16, 2016. 185 films from 62 countries will be screened at 13 theatres during the fest. Migration is the theme of this year’s festival. Navid Mahmoudi-directed Afghan movie ‘Parting’ will be the first one to be screened. The festival which is touted as one of the best in Asia has received overwhelming response from the public. 15,000 people have registered for the festival in three days and out of which passes have been limited to 13,000 delegates. The 13 theatres have a capacity to seat 9,000. The festival will have various programmes along with the screening of movies. There will be a folk festival, exhibition that includes video installations of late film personalities. Tagore theatre will be the main venue for the festival. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the festival on December 9 at Nishagandhi auditorium. The closing ceremony will be held at the same venue on December 16.


The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, in association with the Public Health Centre, Angadikadavu, staged a street play on 08-12-2016 in the campus to conscientize the students about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and on the preventive measures against the spread of AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease.

In the maiden University Level Intercollegiate Tug-of-War competition held at Pius X College, Rajapuram, the students from Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu secured the third place in Kannur University. Jithu Jacob from BSc Mathematics led the team, with Jilson Chacko (BBA), Mithin Mathew (BCA), Abhijith Bhaskaran (BSc Maths), Adarsh Mathew (BCom Computer Application), Alan Augustine (BCom Co-Operation), Blesson K James (BA English Literature), Mighil G Nair (BA English Literarure), and Ebin Devasia (English Literature), giving a crushing defeat to the team from Government College, Mananthavady in a lucid professional style.


Mighil G. Nair (BA English Literature), Jilson Chacko (BBA), and Jithu Jacob among boys and Anitta Varghese (BBA), Joshmy George (BSc Mathematics) and Anju Kuriakose (BSc Mathematics) from Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu are shortlisted for the University Tug-of-War team selection camp.


The Third Semester MSW University Examinations will begin on December 21, 2016. The last date for the payment of fees in the university is 8th December 2016.


Ujwal P.P., Vishnudas K.S., Athira K.M. Meghna Nair and Nebula M.P. doing their First Semester MCJ secured the second prize in the cinema spoof competition conducted as part of National Media Fest hosted by the Department of Journalism, Mangattuparamba Campus, Kannur University on 1st & 2nd of December 2016.


Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu was the venue for the Grama Sabha convened by Ayyankunnu Panchayat at 2 p.m. on Monday, 5th December, 2016. People from all the 16 wards in the Panchayat participated in the meeting presided over by the Panchayat President Adv. Sheeja Sebastian.


The Department of Social Work at Don Bosco Arts & Science College made the International Day of People with Disability special, bringing together all the physically and mentally challenged citizens from Ayyankunnu Panchayat, with the support of the Panchayat Authorities. About 150 persons along with their family members participated in the programme held in the seminar hall at 3 p.m. on Monday December 5, 2016. The special packages and schemes offered by the Government for the disabled persons were discussed and the grievances of the beneficiaries were given the required hearing. Ayyankunnu Panchayat President Adv. Sheeja Sebastian inaugurated the Disability Day Celebrations. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat delivered the presidential address. Mr. Zhavierkutty Francis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work made a detailed presentation on the significance of the day. The International Day of People with Disability is a day that has been promoted by the United Nations since 1992. The aim of Disability Day is to encourage a better understanding of people affected by a disability, together with helping to make people more aware of the rights, dignity and welfare of disabled people, as well as raise awareness about the benefits of integrating disabled persons into every aspect of life, from economic, to political, to social and cultural.


Lujain Seed Hussain, Ashbin Saji, Amarjith Anil and Jibin Babu from First Semester BCom Computer Applications, added another feather to Kannur University’s unparalleled Institute of Higher Education, Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, winning the first prize in Marketing Game held as part of Karmanta, the national level management fest organized by Vimal Jyothi Institute of Management and Research, Chemperi on 29th and 30th November, 2016. They won a cash prize of Rs.12000, apart from the winners’ trophy and merit certificate. The students from the First Semester MCom Finance won the third prize for both for Finance and Marketing Game contests. In the dance fest, students from the First Semester UG batches secured the third prize.


The first semester University examinations for all the students doing their undergraduate programmes will commence on Wednesday 7th December, 2016 BCom, BA English Literature and BSW examinations will end on 16th December 2016. BBA and BSc Mathematics examinations will end on 19th December 2016. BCA examinations will end on 22nd December 2016.
