SLATE 3, the two day residential campus literature fest organized by the department of English was conducted on 18th and 19th January 2019. Around 120 students participated in the events like Best Communicator, Literary Quiz, Photography, Magazine, Short Story, Paper Presentation, Versification and Film Review. competitions. The event was inaugurated by Mr. P. Sudhakaran, Assistant Editor, Times of India in a gathering presided over by Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, Principal. Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O. delivered the benedictory address and master Prince Sunny, the student co-ordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The fest was noted for its commitment to literary excellence and the grand cultural event that concluded the fest.


The three-day Body-Mind-Heart Workshop organized for the non-Catholic students animated by a leading professional organization in Thiruvananthapuram, Blue Point Org, from Thursday to Saturday 13 to 15th December, 2018 at Don Bosco Arts & Science College motivated the participants to enhance their personality, to boost up their self-confidence, to widen their mental horizons, to heighten their emotional intelligence quotient, and to mould their physique without falling a prey to the bodily allurements. The workshop was made a treasured experience for students with exhilarating party games, stimulating group works, innovative role plays, and erudite oriented youth-specific insights. “The workshop was a golden opportunity for an inner journey and introspection. Life has become more meaningful, and I have a futuristic mindset now. It was an enlightening and empowering workshop,” said Rasha Fathima from the Department of Psychology.


The three-day spiritual retreat for the Catholic students animated by the Christeen Team from Thursday to Saturday 13 to 15th December, 2018 at Don Bosco Campus Chapel was an energizing God-experience, with the participants going for self-motivated spiritual counselling, self-assessment and self-purification, culminating in the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The retreat was made a very effervescent experience for students with appealing action songs, faith-intensifying prayer sessions, inspiring testimonies and contextualized youth-oriented insights. There were 24 counsellors for personal guidance. “The retreat was a unique experience for me. I am now strong enough to withstand the daunting challenges of life,” said Mariya Augustine from the Department of Social Work. Of 1100 students at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, 760 are Catholics.


Kalika 2K18, the10-day rural camp held at Vaniyapara from November 29 to December 8, 2018, was a stimulating experience for the 36 BSW second semester students who with the wide exposure received, shaped their social consciousness and mastered the art of adjustment and accommodativeness . Along with the Social Work Department staff, they repaired the dilapidated road, re-furbished three houses damaged in the unprecedented landslips and torrential rain in August 2018 and dug a toilet pit for a house without the basic necessities. A survey was conducted to assess the socio-economic and educational status of the people in the area and the impact of quarries in the area on the living conditions of the residents and on the environment. “Staying, working and cooking together as a batch mingling with the ordinary people, and adjusting ourselves with the inconveniences of the place was a thrilling experience,” said Diya Antony, the student coordinator. At the concluding function, Ayyankunnu Panchayath President Adv. Sheeja Sebastian, College Manager Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O., Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, Vaniyapara Parish Priest Fr. Xavier Puthiyaparambil, and Ward Member Vinod M spoke. A wide variety of cultural programmes performed by BSW students added colour to the rural camp.

The Staff from Don Bosco Colleges in Kerala and Karnataka had an intensive National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) training programme at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu to tailor them for the requirements of the revised accreditation scheme. Dr. Ayyappa Das, Vice-Principal and NAAC Coordinator of RVS College, Coimbatore presented the latest parameters adopted for NAAC accreditation and the guidelines for the proper implementation of the scheme in various sectors of Higher Education. There were 75 Staff Members from Don Bosco Colleges in Angadikadavu, Sulthan Bathery, Mampetta, and Mannuthy in Kerala, and from Yadagiri in Karnataka. It was decided to facilitate and speed up the NAAC accreditation process making the required changes in the existing curriculum, administration and documentation. The Manager of Don Bosco Institutes of Higher Education, Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas inaugurated the programme. Principal of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu welcomed the gathering and Principal of Don Bosco College, Angadikadavu, Fr. Dr. Johny Jose delivered the initiation address. Fr. Dr. Jiby Parekulath and Fr. Dr. Joshy Puthur, Principals of Don Bosco Colleges at Mampetta and Yadagiri respectively, were also present for the programme.


The first batch of BSc Psychology students had a day-long session on psychology career prospects and on emotional hygiene for self-discipline by Dr. Fr. Joe Kokkandathil, Director of Don Bosco Career Guidance and Counselling Centre, Kochi, on Friday 12th October, 2018. “We are now with the best mindset for our academic pursuit. Our path is clear. It is a noble profession. We know our destination,” said Athira K, one of the students after the programme. Fr. Dr. Joe completed his doctorate in clinical psychology from Central University, Gulbarga, and had been to different parts of India and abroad offering professional training in emotional hygiene.


The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, as part of Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations organized an Anti-Drugs Human Chain Campaign at Kootuupuzha, in collaboration with Iritty ExciseRange, Mattannur Arts & Sports Club, and Amma Palliative Unit, on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Iritty Range Civil Excise Officer Babu Francis delivered the keynote address. NSS Programme Officers Rajisha C.K. and Nithin Kuttan P.K. led the anti-drugs conscientization rally in Koottupuzha town


Angadikadavu Don Bosco Arts & Science College women team,represented by Alna Raj, MareenaK Sabu, Princy E.P, Aneena Raj and Sreelekshmi Vinod,won the third place in Kannur University intercollegiate badminton championship held at University Campus, Mangattuparambaon October 5, 2018. The winners are eligible for grace marks in the university examinations. Alna Raj from BSW (2016-2019 Batch) is selected as the first reserve player of Kannur university women’s badminton team.


The Department of Social Work, in collaboration with Healthline Suraksha Project, Kannur, organized a ‘Transgender Awareness Campaign’ at Don Bosco Arts & Science College on Friday October 5, 2018. with two transgenders being honoured. Varsha and Noora, the transgenders hailing from Kannur interacted with the students sharing their earlier experiences of being sidelined and the positive changes taking place in the mindset of the mainstream society after the favourable Supreme Court verdict. “It was an enlightening experience for us to widen our mental horizons and to treat the transgenders with respect recognizing their unique identity,” said Nithin Thomas, one of the students from Social Work Department.


The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu spent a day at Sneha Bhavan, Koottupuzha, a Centre for the rehabilitation of the homeless particularly the old and the differently abled abandoned by their family and relatives. NSS volunteers interacted with them, shared a meal with them, cleaned up the institution, offered haircut to the inmates, washed their clothes and entertained them with a cultural extravaganza. College Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat inaugurated the function. Mattannur Mini Club President Arun M presided. NSS Programme Officers Rajisha C.K. and Nithin Kuttan P.K. spoke on the occasion.


Rural Camp for MSW Semester I at St Antony’s Church, Anara, 20-29 September 2018


Under the leadership of the Social Work Department, a seminar was held. Besides the staff and students of the Department, more than 30 senior citizens and the leadership of the Ayyankunnu Grama Panchayat participated. Advocate Sheeja Sebastian, Panchayat President, inaugurated the function presided over by Fr. Francis Karackat, Principal. The input session on the Rights of Elders was by Dr Joe Thomas, Ex. Director of Partners in Population and Development (PPD).


Adarsh Aji from BCom Computer Application secured third place for 200 meter Individual, 200 meter Free Style, 4x200 Relay and 4x100 meter Medley Relay. Princy E.P., Aleena Tom, Arya Ranjith and Nidhina Joseph won silver medal for 4x200 Relay. Princy E.P. won bronze for 800 meter Free Style. Don Joseph Joy, Alwin Antony, Adarsh Aji and Jobn Joseph bagged bronze for 4x200 meter Free Style Relay. Arun Joseph, Don Joseph Joy, Adarsh Aji and Jobin Joseph won third place for 4x100 meter Medley Relay. The swimming championship was held at Kannur University Campus, Mangattuparamba on September 29, 2018.
