Nehad of BCA First year has won the first prize in Kannur District Best Physique championship award which was held on March 28,2021 at Kannur.


The Department of Social Work organized training in Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) for the second year students of MSW on 27 and 28 March 2021. The practical sessions on the second day were held at Valathode. People are the best source of knowledge in social matters. PRA is an approach aimed at eliciting information from rural people and deliberating upon a plan for local development. It is a pack of more than 15 methods to gather reliable information from the society. Students gathered information from the rural people– history, migration, climate, agriculture, cattle, water sources, income, and scores of other topics. The local people actively shared the base line knowledge about their habitation. In the mean time, the students deepened their knowledge of PRA. The training lasted late into night on both the days. Intermittent power disruption, acute shortage of drinking water, lack of range for mobile, destruction of crops by wild animals, etc. were the most critical problems faced by the people. Mr. Shaji KV (Program Officer, SHREYAS, Wayanad) and Mr Xavierkutty Francis (Assistant Professor and Social Work, Academic Coordinator, Don Bosco Arts and Science College) led the training.


In the university level intercollegiate chess tournament held at MM Knowledge Arts & Science College, Don Bosco Arts & Science College won the third prize in women’s category. Sreya KS (BCom Computer Application), the captain, Arunima Vijayan (BSW), Archana Tomy (BCom Finance), Sanika Tom (BSc Maths), Anumol K Benny (BA English) and Anuja Johnson (BCom Finance) are now eligible to get grace marks in the university examinations


6 MSW First Year students of DonBosco Arts and Science College Angadikadavu have joined hands with the Govt. of Kerala in addressing the precarious health situation of Kannur in Kerala.   They are on a fortnight-long intense drive, at the Taluk Hospitals at Iritty and Peravoor and the Primary Health Centres at Angadikadavu, Karikottakari, Ulikkal and Vallithode to facilitate the Covid Vaccination and other health services on behalf of the common citizens of the country.   The whole day, 9 am to 4 pm, is spent in conscientization, surveys, visits to houses, etc.  They serve while learning the art of being a professional social worker.  In the thick of the current health hazards, it is a challenge to reach out to those in need.


A novel venture by the Department of Journalism and Communication of Don Bosco Arts & Science College in bringing out a local newspaper, Angadipathram, was materialized on March 9, 2021, at a humble function held in the heart of Angadikadavu town. Kuriachan Paiballikunnel, Panchayath President, Ayyankuunu, officially released the newspaper and George Ottaplackel, a local businessman, received the first copy of the newspaper. The President appreciated the students and invited the people to extend their support for the venture. It is our paper, and our news said the President. Fr Dr Francis Karackatt, the Principal, introduced the first issue and congratulated the department for bringing out such a unique news disseminator for the public of Ayyankunnu Grama Panchayath. George Ottaplackel requested the budding young journalists to be realistic and objective in the presentation of the content. He assured wholehearted support from the business community of Angadikadavu. Angadipathram, the brainchild of the faculty members to connect with the locality, has become a reality. With Dr Fr Bastin Nellissery as Chief Editor, Previn PF, staff editor, and students as editors and reporters, the newspaper is expected to roll out every two weeks and is free of cost.


Fr. Dr. Kuriakose Pallikunnel, Head, Department of Counselling Psychology with over two decades of experience training counsellors and mentors both in India and abroad, immersed the teaching staff at Don Bosco Arts & Science College and Don Bosco College, into the mentoring process, procedures and strategies, on Saturday march 06,2021. The workshop, organized by the IQAC at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, in collaboration with Don Bosco College, was participated by 80 teaching staff. The mentoring system will be in place, with a coordination committee monitoring and reviewing the process. Each teacher will be entrusted with 20 students whom they don’t teach.


The Department of Social Work at Don Bosco Arts & Science College is on a mission to empower rural women, with the WELive (Women Empowerment through Livelihood and Entrepreneurship) Project, sponsored by BREADS, Bangalore, inaugurated at Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu. The first cluster, inaugurated by Mr. Kuriachan Paimpallikunnel, Ayyankunnu Grama Panchayat President, at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, on 3 March, had 30 participants. The second cluster, launched by Mr. K Velayudhan, President, Iritty Block Panchayat President, at St Mary’s Church, Kiliyanthara, on 4 March, had 55 participants. A 3-hour input was provided on Entrepreneurship process and skills. The session was handled by Mr. PM Pathrose, Executive Director of Jeevan Jyothi, Kalpetta, Wayanad, and EDP Trainer for more than 36 years with certification from EDII, Ahmadabad. Fr Dr Thomas Koonan (Head, Department of Social Work) presided and Mr Xavierkutty Francis (Assistant Professor), Department of Social Work, rendered the welcome address. The logistics were seen to by Christopher Mathew, Project Co-ordinator. The Project implemented in five districts across Kerala for the uplift of rural women intends to train 2000 entrepreneurs within a period of two years. Don Bosco Arts & Science College is implementing the project in Kannur district. Detailed base line information was gathered from the participants with the help of student volunteers from the Department of Social Work. The participants from each village nominated their leaders. They were convinced of the entrepreneurship road ahead of them and resolved to initiate a project in the near future. The hands-on training has been scheduled for 13 March. The College will make concerted effort to widen the circle of new entrepreneurs.


The First Semester BSW students, accompanied by the Staff Coordinators Zhavierkutty Francis Sir, Vipin Sir and the Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work Lisbel Manikutty Miss, were in Wayanad on Friday, February 19, visiting two social service agencies of repute catering to the marginalised: SHREYAS, the Social Service Society, under the Malankara Catholic Diocese of Sulthan Bathery & JEEVAN JYOTHI, An NGO Working for the Tribal and the marginalized sections of the society since 2011in Kalpetta. Project Officer Shaji KP at SHREYAS, and Executive Director PM Pathrose at JEEVAN JYOTHI took orientation sessions and students had a guided tour to the various segments of both these agencies. Orientation visits are envisaged in BSW curriculum to familiarise the students with the burning issues faced by the society today, and to develop a critical understanding of the society's response to these contemporary concerns through the wide range of services of these professional agencies.


Complementing the theoretical inputs on print journalism, first-year postgraduate students of journalism visited Deepika Newspaper and the Press Club of Kannur on February 23, 2021, organized by the Department of Journalism and Communication.  Reneesh Mathew, Bureau Chief and an alumnus of the Department of Journalism, briefed on the entire process of gathering and editing news stories. Later, the group observed the printing of Rashtra Deepika, an evening paper published by Deepika Publication. The post- lunch session was in Kannur Press Club, interacting with A K Haris, President Press Club Kannur. Haris explained in detail the queries of students from the registration to the conduct of press club meetings. The 15 postgraduate students accompanied by the faculty members spent the day discussing and learning experientially.


The First Year MSW students are now from their classroom to the field ... in a rural camp at Uruppumkutty, in touch with ground realities of life .... As part of the rural camp, three check dams are being made across Kundoor river under the scorching sun, to retain water upstream, for the water to percolate into the wells getting dry around the area.  The families at Uruppumkutty have been battling with water scarcity for years particularly in the months of April and May.  These check dams will increase the ground water level in the vicinity.  Ayyankunnu Panchayath President Kuriachan Paimkilikunnel inaugurated the camp. Panchayath  Member KJ Jose felicitated.  Congratulations to MSW HoD Fr. KO Thomas, Teachers and MSW First Year Students.

The Department of Commerce organized a webinar on 02-02-2021, for students in the department on the topic “Awareness on Banking Ombudsman Scheme”. The session was handled by Mr. Sreenath L., Assistant Manager, Office of the Banking Ombudsman, Thiruvanthapuram. Topics covered : 1) Banking Ombudsman. 2) List of complaints one can lodge with the Banking Ombudsman. 3) Situations in which the complaint can be rejected by the Banking Ombudsman. 4) The procedure for filing a complaint with Banking Ombudsman.


Department of Commerce organised a one-day Webinar on 20 November 2020 on the topic "A New World- Turn Things Your Way".


IQAC in collaboration with Department of Mathematics organised a Webinar on the topic:"CHALLENGES AHEAD FOR AFFILIATED COLLEGES IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEW EDUCATION POLICY" on 30 October 2020


Thalassery Forest Range Office and NSS Unit (47&72) of Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu jointly organised sapling planting programme on 02-07-2020. As part of ‘Vana Mahostvam’ programme organised by Kerala Forest department from July 1st to 7th Thalassery Forestry department officer, Mr. Arunesh K.V planted a sapling and inaugurated the function. The principal Rev. Dr. Fr. Francis Karakat welcomed the small gathering and the programme officer Smt Jisha E. Delivered vote of thanks. The NSS Volunteer Secretary Akhil Devasia and the programme officer Sri Nithin Kuttan P.K gave initiation to the programme.
