The Department of Social Work organized training in Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) for the second year students of MSW on 27 and 28 March 2021. The practical sessions on the second day were held at Valathode. People are the best source of knowledge in social matters. PRA is an approach aimed at eliciting information from rural people and deliberating upon a plan for local development. It is a pack of more than 15 methods to gather reliable information from the society. Students gathered information from the rural people– history, migration, climate, agriculture, cattle, water sources, income, and scores of other topics. The local people actively shared the base line knowledge about their habitation. In the mean time, the students deepened their knowledge of PRA. The training lasted late into night on both the days. Intermittent power disruption, acute shortage of drinking water, lack of range for mobile, destruction of crops by wild animals, etc. were the most critical problems faced by the people. Mr. Shaji KV (Program Officer, SHREYAS, Wayanad) and Mr Xavierkutty Francis (Assistant Professor and Social Work, Academic Coordinator, Don Bosco Arts and Science College) led the training.
