The Management, staff and students of Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu, felicitated Saneesh T. K. a past pupil of the college on the occasion of winning the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award and Kerala State Television Award 2016 for the his investigative story on M-Sand mining in the state of Kerala. Saneesh, a post graduate from the Department of Communication and Journalism (2004-2006), Don Bosco Arts and Science College, affiliated to Kannur University, is currently the Associate News Producer of Malayala Manorama TV (MMTV) News channel and co-host of the political satire progrmme, Thiruva Ethirva. He has to his kitty, State Sports Council’s G V Raja Award 2014 for Sports Journalism and Mushtaq Award 2014 presented by Calicut Press Club for the Best Sports Journalist.

Sreedhareeyam (Wearer of Well-being), the Yoga Club at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, launched jointly by the Department of Physical Education and National Service Scheme), was formally inaugurated at 3 p.m. on Thursday, 28th July, 2016. “Yoga is not a religion. Yoga is a science, a science of well-being, a science of youthfulness, a science of integrating body, heart, mind, and soul. Yoga is a journey of the self, into the self and by the self,” said Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat urging the students to grab the opportunity and to make an integral part of daily time table. Yoga practice is arranged in the seminar hall from 6 a.m. to 6.45 a.m. from Monday to Friday. Two Faculty Members specialized in Yoga, Rajisha C.K. and Nishamol N.V. will train the students. Physical Education Director, Bibin Antony welcomed the gathering and NSS Programme Officer Sarath Krishnan presided over the function. Yoga Club Staff Coordinator Rajisha C.K. initiated the students into yoga. Yoga Club Student Convener Anusha Mathew proposed vote of thanks.

Baiju Keezhara who had been on a cycle expedition from Kanyakumari to Ladake covering 14 States of India, was here on Monday 25th July sharing his adventurous, thrilling and enlightening experiences and inspiring students to be in tandem with nature. It was a 29-day expedition from September 16, 2015, on a cycle traversing 4,500 kilometers, braving freezing cold and scorching heat. Hailing from an interior area at Keezhara in Kannur district, Baiju fell in love with nature and deemed it his mission to conscientize the public about the essentiality of eco-tuned life style and environmentally-sensitive approach to development and modernization. Baiju urged the students to be always in a pro-nature mindset. Ramachandran, a known resource person from the Department of Forests took a very informative and entertaining session on how to be in harmony with nature. The programme was organized by the Nature Club, with the arrangements made by the Staff Coordinator Shijina K.V. and her team.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu contributed Rs. 10,700/- (Ten Thousand and Seven Hundred only) mobilized from the students for the medical treatment of a two-year old child, Advin Krishna, admitted at MIMS Hospital, Kozhikode battling for life with kidney complications.

The Catholic students who joined this year for various undergraduate programmes had a reawakening experience on Thursday July 14, 2016, with the Jesus Youth Group offering them a special musical treat to be spiritually afresh for making campus life fruitful and efficacious. The Music team led by Gracious George from MA English Literature through their melodious voice got the freshers glued to a unique God-experience. College Manager and Rector Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas inaugurated the programme urging the students to become firmly rooted in God to flower in life. Shijina K.V., Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Staff Co-ordinator of Nature Club, along with four students from here, had a thrilling and refreshing experience for two days on 25th & 26th June 2016 participating in an All Kerala Rain Camp at Madayipara, one of the most scenic tourist spots in Malabar region. Larking about in the incessant rain without umbrellas, the 40 nature lovers from schools, colleges and from diverse walks of life across Kerala had a soothing feel at its best. The most exciting part of the rain camp was the Frogging Trip in the midnight from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m., with everyone walking in the rain to Madayipara to identify the wide varieties of frogs listening to their distinct croaks. There invigorating walk early in the morning on the second day to spot different species of birds was another enthralling package of the rain camp. The outing to Vadakundha Temple, Madayi Kavu, Butterfly Park, Judha Pond, and to the China clay mining area was special. The visit to the mining area was a startling revelation on the merciless devastation of charming nature. Hridya P, Archana Bijo and Sayuraj from Third Semester BA English Literature and Agnes Francis from Third Semester BCA were the students who represented Don Bosco Arts & Science College. The camp was organized jointly by Malabar Natural History Society (MNHS) and the Society for Environmental Education in Kerala (SEEK). It was the 17th rain camp held at Madayipara.

Spearheading Anti-Drugs Movement in the campus this year, students and staff took an oath during the Morning Assembly on June 27th Monday 2016, never to take drugs and to prevent others from resorting to substance abuse. Anumol Mathew, Student Co-ordinator of Anti-Drugs Campaign, hailing from the Department of Mathematics, led the oath-taking ceremony.
