In the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) General Body Meeting held on September 21, 2016, Mr. Nandanan P.K, father of Aiswarya Nandanan doing her First Semester BA English Literature was elected as the Vice-President of PTA. Mr. Nandanan, a School Teacher with over 25 years of experience, hails from Edoor, three kilometers from the college. Annamma P.V., mother of Anju Michael doing her Fifth Semester BA English Literature was re-elected as the Joint Vice-Chairperson for a second term. Mrs. Annamma is from Madathil, five kilometers from Angadikadavu. About 790 parents participated in the General Body Meeting. College Manager Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas welcomed the gathering. PTA President Vijayan M. gave the initial talk. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat delivered the presidential address and presented the official policy of the college on all matters, for ensuring quality, integral formation and discipline in the college.


The interdepartmental neck-and-neck competitions, ranging from exquisite flower carpet, witty arm-wrestling, and innovative cultural programmes, to the hilarious pot-breaking and tug-of-war events, made the Onam celebrations held in the campus on September 9th Friday, 2016, an exciting experience for all. The Department of MCA bagged the first prize for flower carpet competition. The second prize was for MCom Department. In the tug-of-war, students from the Department of BA English Literature among boys and students from the Department of BSW among girls emerged as winners. The best cultural performance was done by the students from the Department of BSW. The songs, dance and fashion show by the staff made the celebrations merrier. The message programme by the students from Journalism (MCJ) Department was an extraordinary burlesque. Ayankunnu Panchayat President, Advocate Sheeja Sebastian formally inaugurated “Onaaravam 2016”. The royal reception offered to Maveli in his legendary attire added pomp to the Onam gala. “It was the best Onam programme so far in our campus. There was quality in every programme. The cultural extravaganza was excellent,” said Previn P.F., one of the Faculty Members in the Department of Journalism.


DC Books, the largest publisher in Kerala, the leading publisher of books in Malayalam, and one of the ten biggest publishers in India, organized a two-day book fair in the campus making available must-read books falling in the categories of academia, novels, collections of short stories, poems, biographies, personality development, inspirational literature, and competitive examinations, at a discount rate.


The Teachers’ Day celebrations on September 5th Monday 2016 were treasured moments for the staff with the two-hour variety entertainment hosted by the College Union leaving an indelible mark clearly manifesting expressions of a rare blend of friendship and firmness in their relationship with the students. Roshini P.K., Faculty In-Charge of B.Com Computer Application, Deepa Divakar, Assistant Professor in the Postgraduate Department of English, Amrutha M.V., Assistant Professor in the Department of English, Awati Monali, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, Jainy George, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi, Hebin Layola, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Application enthralled the gathering with their melodious songs. Students from various batches made the cultural extravaganza glitzy with their spellbinding dances and riveting melodies. Mementos were presented to all the teachers. Specially designed cloaks were given for each staff room in every department. The programme had its climax with a sumptuous lunch. BODMAS, the Association of students in the Department of Mathematics, was formally inaugurated on Friday, 12th August, 2016, with a seminar on ‘Fuzzy Sets’ by Dr. Sabu Sebastian, Head, Department of Mathematics, Nirmalagiri College, Koothuparamba. In Mathematics, fuzzy sets are sets whose elements have degrees of membership. Fuzzy sets were introduced by Lotfi A. Zadeh and Dieter Klaua in 1965 as an extension of the classical notion of set. BODMAS Association President Alex John welcomed the gathering. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat delivered the presidential address. Chief Guest Dr. Sabu Sebastian officially launched the Association lighting the lamp and widening the mathematical horizons of students with his enlightening keynote address. The faculty In-Charge of the Department of Mathematics Jimi Joseph and former Association Arts Secretary Rintu Thomas offered felicitations. Dona Sajeev punctuated the inaugural ceremony with her melodious song. Association secretary Anusha Mathew proposed vote of thanks.


As part of the curriculum, the BSW students who joined this year went for a two-day exposure programme in Bangalore on 5th and 6th August 2016, accompanied by Dr. Anoop Antony, Faculty In-Charge of BSW, and Rose Mary George, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. Initiating the students into professional practice in the field of social work, they visited several social service organizations, developmental NGOs and Professional Social Work Institutions including BREADS, BOSCO, Shehadan, CRY, SOS Children’s Village and DBTECH. “We are now sure of what we are to be. We are now properly motivated to shape our career. It was very wonderful experience being together with the marginalized and the deprived,” said Sanath Assena, one of the BSW students.


The freshers who joined Don Bosco Arts & Science College (DBASC), Angadikadavu for undergraduate programmes this year, had a unique experience of being welcomed genially by their elder brothers and sisters with a scintillating FLASH MOB immediately after the Morning Assembly before they were about to step into their classrooms for lectures.. A team of 10 dancers led by Siljy Mathew from BA English Literature and Jacob Anto from BCom Computer Application danced to the tunes of trendy melodies in the college auditorium for 14 minutes, reinforcing the Unique Selling Proposition of DBASC, “Kannur University’s Unparalleled Institute of Higher Education.” .Being a quality surprise item, all staff and students were in high spirits. The College Union led by the Chairman Seby Anson made the day special for all newcomers. Two-Day Orientation Programme Orientation Programme was offered for freshers by Manager Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas, Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, Former HoD Journalism Department Fr. Boby Kannezhath, and two Faculty Members from the Department of Social Work, Dr. Anoop Antony and Xavierkutty Francis. The themes covered by them in the orientation programme include Don Bosco and His System of Education, Don Bosco Arts & Science College’s Values Charter, Multiple Intelligences, Tips to Become Smart Students and Strategies for Time Management. Welcome programme was organized for the newcomers by the second and the third year students course-wise in the afternoon from 1.40 to 3.30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.


College Union honoured and felicitated the University and the College toppers, and those students in the outgoing batches securing ‘A’ Grade in various undergraduate programmes, with the Chief Guest Fr. Joyce Thonikuzhiyil SDB, Provincial Superior of the Province of Bangalore, presenting mementos to the high fliers at a colourful function here on Friday, July 08, 2016. The centre of attraction was Greeshma Johny, the University topper in BA English Literature with ‘A’ Grade securing 91 percent, adding another feather to Don Bosco Arts & Science College’s cap, with its credibility for academic excellence right on top. Ann Treesa Benny, the second rank holder in the University for BA English Literature, and Aiswarya Ravi who bagged ‘A’ grade in fifth and sixth semesters were also honoured. The outgoing batch in the department of Mathematics (BSc) left a great legacy, with five of its students getting ‘A’ grade: Roselin P Jose (94%), Ann Maria John (93%), Rosena Baby (92%), Nimisha Babu (90%) and Leenu Joy (88%). Akhila Tomy who bagged ‘A’ grade in the fifth and sixth semesters with A grade was also honoured. Suzenna Babu, the college topper for BCom Computer Application, obtaining ‘A’ grade in the fifth and sixth semesters with 84 %, Anisha Charles, the college topper for BCom Co-operation securing 84%, Agnes Kurien, the college topper for BCA with 83%, and Harsha Babu, the college topper for BBA with 81% were also offered special accolade. “The top scorers should inspire students currently pursuing their studies at Don Bosco, bringing proper prioritization in life. Those who came out in flying colours in the university examinations were those with great determination, perseverance, and assiduous work“, Fr. Joyce said. “The toppers inspired us with their outstanding academic performance. Only those who perspire and sweat with hard work sacrificing sleep and fleeting allurements can inspire. The example set by the outgoing batch of students in the academic arena should be a model for all”, said Fr. Dr. K. O. Thomas, College Manager and Rector “Emerging as one among the best three colleges in Kannur University for academic proficiency within a short span of ten years, today Don Bosco Arts & Science College is recognized and esteemed as an Institute of Higher Education with quality and excellence. The ball is now left to the students still studying to shoot goals and make the college more renowned”, said Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, Principal. Neyons Saji, College Union General Captain welcomed the gathering. Gresshma Johny, Ann Treesa Benny and Roselin P Jose shared their campus experience. Juvel Kuriakose, College Union Arts Secretary proposed vote of thanks.


Spearheading a systematic campaign to make the campus a home-away-home for the freshers going to join the college after a week, and to shape a well-groomed generation without getting trapped by the menace of drugs, College Union organized a timely conscientization programme on Friday, July 01, 2016, with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP), K. Sudersan presenting an in-depth analysis of the current precarious trends, alluring deals from drug traffickers and rackets, the consequences of imprudent decisions from legal, criminal and penal points of view, and the preventive measures to be adopted for personal safety and security. DYSP Sudersan warned the students about being involved in even slight indications of mental embarrassment on freshers as it could be a criminal case if the victim complained to Principal. The accused when convicted will be imprisoned for seven years, he added. Those addicted to drugs have a frozen conscience. Killing another will not prick their conscience. Guilt feeling does not exist in a drug addict, Sudersan said. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat welcomed the gathering. Manager Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas presented memento to the DYSP Sudersan. College Union Chairman Seby Anson proposed vote of thanks.


Iritty Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudersan formally inaugurated the week-long Vana Mahotsav, with the launch of ‘Afforestation Drive’ planting trees in the campus. Saplings of rare species of trees were collected from various quarters under the leadership of Gokul Gopinanthan, the Third Semester BSW student. The saplings will be planted in the upcoming week in the most suited areas to make the campus more eco-tuned.


A variety of electrifying dance sequences and melodious songs made the opening cultural programme of the new academic year at the Amphi Theatre on 23rd June 2016 special and amazing. The dancers and singers from different batches enthralled the largely crowded audience, with their scintillating performances at 3.30 pm after the class hours, breaking the monotony of their rigorous intellectual pursuit, and making the campus life ever more thrilling. Once in two weeks a batch will perform on Amphi Theatre, after adequate practice and rehearsal. Sojimon C.C., Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism is the Staff Coordinator of Amphi Theatre Programme. The duration of the performance is restricted to 40 minutes. The students from the Department of Mathematics will showcase their talents in the Amphi Theatre next.


The NSS units of Don Bosco Arts & Science College observed the international Yoga day with awareness campaign on the benefits of Yoga and also conducted a yoga class in which the NSS volunteers took part. The class included various breathing techniques like 'pranayama' and many 'asanas'. The Physical Education trainer and yoga practitioner Mr. Bibin Antony handled the class. NSS program officers Mr. Sarath Krishnan and Mrs. Rajisha C.K. also took part.


The three-day annual spiritual retreat for the Catholic students animated by Fr. Mathew Asariparambil and his team of 12 counsellors from Mother Home, the Charismatic Retreat Centre at Pariyaram, Kannur, was a transformative experience, giving them a timely opportunity for an inner journey and introspection. The retreat was held at the newly blessed chapel from February 1 to 3, 2018, from Thursday to Saturday from 9.30 in the morning to 3.30 in the evening. “Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu has about 760 Catholic students. It is the college with the highest number of Catholic students in Kannur University. Students responded to the retreat positively and seriously. Several of them had God-experience enlightening and guiding along the right life track,” said Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat.


As part of Kerala Day celebrations (Kerala Piravi), there will be a special interdepartmental carnival contest, in the morning from 9.30 to 11.30 on Monday, November 1, with the students in the department presenting themselves in the auditorium in the traditional Kerala attire. Department HoDs, Incharges, Class Teachers and Department Students Coordinators should have a meeting together to plan the programme, ensuring that it has the required standard. It is hosted by the Departments of Malayalam, Hindi and Social Work, in collaboration with the Nature Club of our college.


WELiVE, a project under DISA, organised a capacity building programme for the women entrepreneurs in Ayyankunnu Gram Panchayat on 20-06-2023 at Ayyankunnu Grampanchayath Hall.
