Flood Relief: Study tables and chairs were distributed to 30 school-going children of Paniya Tribal Colony at Thaazhe Palchuram near Ambayathode. The function held at 11.45 am today (09 September 2018) was presided over by Fr K.O. Thomas, Manager of Don Bosco College, Angadikadavu. The distribution was done by Mr. ROY NAMBUDAKAM, Vice-President of Kottiyoor Grama Panchayat in the presence of Mrs. MOLLY MADAPPALLIKUNNEL, Ward Member, and other dignitaries from the locality as well as the college. The deserving children were identified after a survey of the colony done by Don Bosco College in understanding with the Panchayat. The families had been evacuated as the flood waters inundated their houses.

The College Union Leaders were elected, in the secret ballot presidential mode, with the students exercising their franchise after the required process of discernment on Friday 31st August, 2018. The Meet-the-Candidate programme was held in the college auditorium in the afternoon on Thursday, on the eve of the College Union Election, with all the contestants addressing the campus. The speeches delivered by the candidates in the fray presented their manifesto persuasively without any direct or indirect reference to any political organizations or political ideologies. After the candidate’s speech, opportunity was given to students to ask questions and seek clarifications. “All the candidates had come well-equipped to address the students and their performance was highly impressive,” Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat said. The Chief Returning Officer of the College Union Election was Roshni P.K. Miss, the Head, BCom Computer Application Department.

Identifying with those battling with the heavy losses in the torrential rain, landslip and flood that wreaked havoc in the neighbouring areas, Don Bosco Arts and Science College as part of its rehabilitation package for the victims, donated a wooden cot costing Rs.7000 to Mr. Koran residing at Mundayamparambu on Saturday September 1, 2018 in the presence of Grama Panchayath Ward Member T.M. Venugopal.

The Social Work Students (MSW) at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu were actively involved in relief camps, rehabilitating the people affected by torrential rain and landslips in the neighouring areas, along with the Kannur District Disaster Management team led by army personnel. They cleaned up houses and surroundings in the area as a preventive measure against diseases spreading from contaminated water and polluted garbage.

Angadikadavu Don Bosco Arts & Science College team won the overall championship in the district level tug-of-war tournament held at Mangattuparamaba University Campus on Sunday, June 29, 2018. In both Women and Mixed Categories, Don Bosco was the winner and in Men Category, the runner-up. Don Bosco teams will represent Kannur District in the inter-district tug-of-war tournament going to be held in Kochi on August 11. Congratulations to the coach Shyjan Sir, Physical Education Director Nithin Sir, College Union Staff Advisor Nirmal Tom Sir, Team Mentor Remya Miss, General Captain Christo James, assistant coaches Ebin Devasia, Adarsh and all the team mates.

Award-winning poet and film lyricist Rafeeque Ahamed inaugurated the two-day residential literature workshop at Angadikadavu Don Bosco Arts & Science College, on July 26 and 27, 2018 for students from various colleges across Kannur University. The workshop was organized by the Kannur University Union in collaboration with Kerala Sahithya Academy. It was an intensive training in creative writing by seasoned literary figures in Malayalam for a select group of 50 students with literary intelligence from different colleges. The Director of Student Services (DSS) Padmanabhan Kavumpayi, College Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat. University Union Chairman Shiju C.P., University Union Vice-Chairman Amal M.S., and University Union Councilor Gautham Gangadharan spoke on the occasion.

Kalpetta DYSP Prince Abraham who delivered the keynote address and honoured the winners of University Sports Championship on Thursday 5th July 2018, urged the students to be vigilant and discreet in taking decisions, as hasty moves are likely to end up in disasters. “The most thrilling period of a person’s life is the time spent in a college campus. These most productive and adventurous years should be channelized in the right direction. Pressing pressures and enticing entrapments are normal. But judicious choices are critical to avoid regret and remorse later,” DYSP Prince said. On the risks involved in alluring experiments, DYSP Prince said, “Drugs will offer kick for a while, but they will damage your brain and health. Once you fall, you will get addicted, and it will be a Herculean task to come out of the trap.” ‘Campus Thrills’ was organized by the College Union in collaboration with the two NSS units of the college. College Union Chairman Muhammad Ummair welcomed the gathering. College Manager Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas, Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, and NSS Programme Officer Rajisha C.K. spoke on the occasion.

The freshers who joined Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu on Monday July 2, 2018, for nine undergraduate courses after their Plus Two studies, had a very pleasant experience of being integrated into college campus from a school setting with their elder brothers and sisters welcoming them in a family ambience with a mesmeric flash mob. Department Associations hosted an exhilarating welcome programme in the afternoon, punctuated with self-introduction, talent hunt and party games. College Manager Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas, and Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat formally welcomed the new students to the campus during the morning assembly. With the three new courses (BCom Finance, BSc Psychology and MSc Mathematics), the total strength of students in the new academic year will be almost 1100.

Handing over the key of Snehaveedu, a house built by the National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, to Lekshmi Pattathil, the homeless widow working as a cook in one of the Ladies’ Hostels, the Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University, Prof. Dr. Gopinath Ravindran in his keynote address on Thursday April 26, 2018 said that the campus was on the right track and the declaration in the Value Charter of the college that service to the needy was an obligation and not charity was the right perception that everyone should have. “This is my first visit to Don Bosco Arts & Science College. I am most happy to note that this is the best maintained and modern college campus that I have visited in Kannur University. Don Bosco campus is green and elegant. The college, run on solar power selling the surplus to the Electricity Department is an extraordinary achievement and it should be emulated by other campuses,” Prof. Gopinath said. The Director of Student Services (DSS) and NSS Coordinator of Kannur University, Padmanabhan Kavumbai in his complementary address said that the two NSS units of Don Bosco Arts & Science College were the best units in the University in terms of their quality of performance and their involvement in humanitarian services. The 920-square-feet house of Lekshmi hailing from Mundayamparambu, three kilometers away from the campus, built by the students under the dynamic leadership of the two NSS Programme Officers, Rajisha C.K. and Nithin Kuttan with the fund mobilized from the well-wishers, has two bed rooms, dining hall, kitchen and work area. It was completed spending almost five lakh rupees. College Manager Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O. delivered the benedictory address. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat presided over the function. Vice-Principal Fr. Shibu Davis, Ayankunnu Panchayath President Ad. Sheeja Sebastian, University Union Chairman C.P. Shiju and College Union Chairman Muhammad Ummair spoke on the occasion. Rajisha C.K. welcomed the gathering and Nithin Kuttan proposed vote of thanks.

The Registrar of Kannur University, Dr. Balachandran Keezhoth who inaugurated and delivered the keynote address for the College Day Celebrations in the evening on Friday, 16th March, 2018, presented scholarship, memento and merit certificate to 117 best students in every batch in the campus.

Don Bosco Arts & Science College bagged 55 prizes with grace marks in various competitions held as part of Kannur University Arts Fest at S.N. College, Kannur from 28th February to March 4, 2018. Payannur College won the overall championship. Kannur S.N. College secured the second place. Nehru Arts & Science College, Kanhangad, Govt. Brennen College, Thalassery and Govt. College, Kasargode were the other leading colleges along with Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu.

Kerala Electricity Minster M.M. Mani presented Kerala State Renewable Energy Commendation Certificate 2017 in the category of Educational Institutions to Fr. Dr. K.O. Thomas, Manager, Don Bosco Arts & Science College at a function held at Kanakakunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram on February 28, 2018. The award was given in appreciation of the solar energy plant installed in the campus tying up with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

In the two-day interdepartmental Arts Fest, EVEXIA 2018, held at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu on 24th and 25th January, 2018, BCom Computer Application Association won on-stage championship, with 239 points. The second place was for BA English Association with 236 points. The third place was for BCom Co-operation Association with 149 points.
