The Fifth Edition of the biggest Campus Film Festival in Kerala, DISC (Donbosco International Silverscreen Carnival), organized by the postgraduate department of journalism(MCJ) at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, the most equipped training centre in Kerala moulding professionals for main stream media, will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 6th and 7th, 2017. Apart from screening world classics in five theaters with authoritative inputs from luminaries in the field, there will also be competitions: campus short film and documentary, Television News Presentation, Television Programme Anchoring, Film Review, Still Photography and film quiz for students from various colleges across South India. The acclaimed script writer John Paul who has penned screenplays for nearly 100 Malayalam movies will be the key resource person initiating the delegates into the movies. There will also be Research Paper Presentation contest on Women and Cinema for postgraduate students and research scholars. The noted actress and film activist Sajitha Madathil, the State Award Winner for Supporting Actress will be the chief guest for the Award Nite on 7th evening. The staff coordinators are Fr. Benny Christudas and Previn P. F., Assistant Professors in the Department of Journalism. Student Coordinators are Fr. Prince and Anjaly from second year MCJ.

The Fourth Edition of the two-day Campus Commerce Fest, COMET, organized by the Department of Commerce at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, 27th and 28th September, 2017. The events for intercollegiate contests include Best Commerciare, Marketing Game, Banking Game, General Quiz, Stock Game, Event Management, Finance Game, Spot Dance and Treasure Hunt. Sojimol P.J, Roshni P.K. and Jitheshmon Mullool are the staff coordinators of COMET. Alan Vincent (BCom Computer Applications, Nimal Varghese (BCom Computer Applications), and Stemil Devasia (BCom Cooperation) are the student coordinators for COMET.

Muhammed Umair from second year BBA will chair the College Union winning the coveted post by a slender margin of six votes against Jibin Babu from BCom Computer Applications in the college union elections in the Presidential mode held on Wednesday 30th August, 2017. Anju Sebastian from second year BCom Cooperation is elected as the College Union Vice-Chairperson. She had a majority of 146 votes against Asmath Aseena from second year BSW. Evan James from second year BCom Cooperation is the College Union Secretary. He defeated Bestin James from BCom Computer Application by 129 votes. Derik George from second year BCom Cooperation and Gautham Gangadharan from second year BA English Literature are the University Union Councillors. They contested against Adarsh Arjunan from second year BCA and Joseph George from second year BCA. Francis Viyon Vinoy from second year BBA is the Arts Secretary, defeating Arun Shaji from second year BBA by 82 votes. Christo James from second year BA English Literature is the General Captain. He won against Akhil P.P. from send year BSc Mathematics by 88 votes. Prince Sunny from second year BA English Literature is the Magazine Editor, defeating Felix Sunny from second year BCom Computer Applications by a margin of 41 votes. Alna Raj from second year BSW is the Joint Secretary. She won against Nayana P.P. from second year BCom Cooperation by 39 votes. The PG Representative is Vishnu Prasad from second year MA English Literature. He won against Aneetta N Binu from second year MSW by one vote. Christo John T from BBA is the First Year Representative in the College Union. He won by 15 votes against Arun Mathew from BCom Computer Applications. Joel Babu from BCom Cooperation is the Second Year Union Representative. He won by 23 votes against Dalgin George from BCom Computer Applications.

The ceremonious reception accorded to Maveli accompanied by BBA ‘subjects’ in traditional attire, and the interdepartmental competitions ranging from Flower Carpet (Pookalam) to arm wrestling, cultural extravaganza, blindfolded breaking pot, and to tug-of-war contest, made Onam celebrations in the campus on August 25th Friday, a dazzling experience for all. MCA Association won the ever-rolling trophy for Pookalam competition. In the interdepartmental arm-wrestling competition, George Joseph from MCA and Athira Thomas from BBA were the winners. BSW students stole the show winning the first prize for the interdepartmental cultural programme competition. In the neck-and-neck tug-of-war interdepartmental competition, BCom Co-operation students (Gents Contest) and BSW students (Ladies Contest ) bagged the championship. The message programme performed by MCJ students added colour to the Onam gala. Physical Education Director Nithin Kuttan Sir, along with Biju John Sir and Sajin Sir from the Department of Social Work, and P.F. Previn Sir from the Department of Journalism coordinated the programme.

The Annual General Body Meeting of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) held on Saturday 19th August, 2017, with about 800 parents participating in the deliberations, unanimously re-elected Nandanan P.K. as the PTA Vice-President. Nandanan P.K., father of Aiswarya Nandanan from second year BA English Literature, hails from Edoor, and is a school teacher. The Vice-Chairperson is Regin Varghese, mother of Alan Maria Varghese from second year BSW, staying in Charal. As per decision in the General Body Meeting, all the parents signed the official resolution to keep the campus fully free from politics to maintain peace and harmony and to create conducive ambience for rigorous academic pursuit. PTA endorsed the existing policies ensuring that there is a right blend of studies and extracurricular activities equipping the students for university examinations, career and life in all realms. A report covering all areas was presented to parents in their personal meeting with the teachers.

The NSS unit of DON BOSCO ARTS & SCIENCE COLLEGE has planted around 50 saplings in collaboration with Ayyankunnu Panchayath authorities on Monday, June 5th 2017, making the world environment day celebrations meaningful. Adv. Sheeja Sebastian, the President of Ayyankunnu Panchayath inaugurated the function by planting a sapling. The forest officer in the region, and many office bearers of Ayyankunnu Panchayath also participated in the programme with the Kudumbasree workers. In the academic year, each N.S.S. volunteer will to plant a minimum of 12 saplings.

The Controller of Examinations Dr. P. Babu Anto who delivered the keynote address and inaugurated the College Day celebrations here on Friday 24th March, 2017 said, in terms of infrastructure, quality of education, discipline, and academic performance, Don Bosco Institutes of Higher Education are on par with or better than the established Government and aided colleges in the University of Kannur. “There are only 26 government and aided colleges in the University of Kannur. But the number of self-financing colleges in the University is threefold, 76 of them functioning in the three districts of Kannur, Kasargode and Wayanad. Among them, Don Bosco is the best. Those in the management are seasoned educators. Parents should feel proud and privileged to have their children at Don Bosco where they are safe and secure,” Dr. Babu said. Dr. Babu Anto presented scholarships and mementos to 125 students at a very colourful function held from 5.30 p.m. The best performing student from every outgoing postgraduate and undergraduate programme was offered a scholarship of Rs.9000 and Rs. 5000 respectively. The top scorers in examinations in every batch, the students with the best leadership proficiency in every outgoing batch and the students who performed best in intercollegiate competitions were also offered scholarship and merit certificates. Dr. J. V. Vilanilam scholarships for the top scorers in university examinations in BA English Literature and MCJ and the student with the best aptitude for journalism in the first year UG batches were also presented. The parents of most of the scholarship winners were present for the function. The programme ended with the cultural extravaganza from the students and staff including mime and Malayalam drama scripted and directed by Jino Joseph, a past pupil who won Sahitya Academy Award this year for his drama ‘Mathi’.

Dr. Jose Thomas Koyickal, the Vice-Provincial of the Sacred Heart Province of Bangalore that covers the two states of Kerala and Karnataka, appreciating the students who made Don Bosco proud with their scintillating performance in the University Arts Fest at LBS College, Kasargode said, “Don Bosco Arts & Science College has always been on a winning track and making a difference in the field of higher education in the University of Kannur. Securing the fourth place in the University Arts Fest is an amazing achievement. Don Bosco is now recognized as a college par excellence and is held in great esteem by the public.” Fr. Jose presented the mementos and certificates to the winners in various competitions.

Kannur University Syndicate Member and former Head, Department of History, Nirmalagiri College, Koothuparamba presented mementos and certificates to the 33 undergraduate students who secured A Grade in the Third and Fifth Semester University examinations. “Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu has within a short span established itself as a quality institute of higher education on par with the reputed Government or aided colleges in the University of Kannur. Don Bosco is likely to be the college with the highest number of A Grade holders in the University,” John Joseph said. “It was by a tender margin 15 students missed A grade. It is a big accomplishment. Don Bosco Arts & Science College is now a model for the other existing colleges in several areas,” he said

The staff had a gala time in Goa on Saturday March 4, 2017. The tantalizing time spent together at Old Goa, St. Francis Church, Museum, St. Augustine Tower, Dona Paula, Candolim Fort, Calangute Beach, and Baga Beach made the day special and exciting. The trip to Kannur railway station was by college bus. Being together in the same compartment in the train made the journey very pleasant and memorable.

Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu, secured the fourth place in the Kannur University Arts Fest organized at LBS College, Kasargod, from 15 to 20 February. The University has about 140 affiliated colleges and so the fourth position is indeed a remarkable achievement for the college, also being a self-financing college of rather recent origin. No other self-financing college is anywhere close to Don Bosco in the rankings while for the college itself this is best position ever. The college team reached the third position at the end of the off-stage items and with the points added from on-stage items the team acquired a grand total of 113 points. The participants bagged one of the first three positions in about 20 items. The participants in the items such as Western group song, English debate, computer designing, Malayalam story writing and drawing secured first prize with A grade. The Malayalam drama “Sumesh” directed by Mr. Jino Joseph won the second prize and Nebula (MCJ 1st year) was given the award for the best actress. It was the concerted effort from the part of the staff and the students along with the blessings of the Almighty that made this splendid success possible.

DON BOSCO ARTS & SCIENCE COLLEGE SECURES THIRD PLACE IN UNIVERSITY ARTS FEST (OFF-STAGE EVENTS) NECK AND NECK WITH GOVT. COLLEGE, KASARAGOD

Jino Joseph, the seasoned playwright in Malayalam known for creative visual treatment in dramas, street plays and mime fetching several State, National and International awards, offered a three-day residential drama workshop for 48 students from various departments here from Sunday January 29 to Tuesday January 31, 2017. Jayachandran Thakazhi, a known drama actor who had won awards for solo dramas, was also in the team training up the students for drama, skit, street play and mime. The sessions were held from 9 a.m. to 9.30 p.m. The students selected from the drama camp will participate in the University Kalotsav going to be held at LBS Engineering College, Kasargode from February 15 to 19, 2017. The workshop organized by the College Union was formally inaugurated by the College Manager, Fr. Dr. K. O. Thomas. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat presided over the concluding function. Biju John, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work and Shanoj Sebastian, Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication assisted the team in the workshop.
