Sneha Veedu- A Home for the Homeless Key Giving Ceremony of Snehaveedu The National Service Scheme of Don Bosco Arts and Science College Angadikadavu, once again renews its commitment to the Society by their hard work and sheer determination. The unit completed its second Sneha Veedu, to be presented to Mrs. Shylaja from Keezhppally in Aralam Grama Panchayath .The key of the newly built house was handed over in a moving ceremony conducted on 30th March 2019 in the College Auditorium presided over by the Manager Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O., Mr. Padmanabhan Kavumbayi, winner of the state level Best NSS Co-ordinator award, presented the key in the presence of Fr. Guilermo Basanes (Salesian General Councillor, Rome), Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat (Principal, DBASC), Dr. M.C. Raju (Syndicate Member, Kannur University), Mrs. Shiji Naduparambil (President, Aralam Grama Panchayath), Mrs. Rajisha C.K. (NSS Programme Officer, DBASC), Mr. Nithin Kuttan P.K. (NSS Programme Officer, DBASC) and the vibrant young NSS volunteers of DBASC. The major part of the work was completed by the volunteer work of the students. The social commitment and the untiring work of the students deserve a special mention. The DBASC family congratulates the NSS unit especially the NSS Programme Officers Mrs. Rejisha C.K. and Mr. Nithin Kuttan.


Another Scholastic Year was brought to a grand and splendid conclusion on 1st March 2019. The Merit Day celebrations held at the College Audiotorium at 2.00 Pm was inaugurated by Dr. John Joseph (Syndicate Member, Kannur University) during which the 106 A and A grade holders of the previous semester, 67 University Sports Medalists and 51 University Arts Winners were honoured in the presence of their parents. The College Day was held at 6.00 pm and was inaugurated by Prof. P.T. Raveendran (Pro.Vice-Chancellor, Kannur University). In the gathering that was presided over Mr. Jerome Jaison, the college union Chariman, Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O., Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat and other dignitaries addressed the gathering. During the ceremony 17 Best Performing Students, 12 Best Enterprising Leaders, 12 National Level Sports Winners, 128 College Toppers in University Exams, Best Inter Collegiate Performers, Most Inspiring Students, Unsung Campus Heroes and the best Performing Members of the Teaching and Non- Teaching faculty were honored in the presence of the whole DBASC family. The exciting cultural bonanza that followed kept the audience glued to their chairs to late in the evening.


The department of Social Work of DBASC conducted a National Seminar on Social Work Approach to Disaster Management with Special Reference to Youth Participation on 1st and 2nd February 2019. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asis Yousef, IAS, Honorable Deputy Collector, Kannur District. Prof. N.V.T. Menon delivered the key note address and presented the first research paper. The DBASC family extends it’s heartiest congratulations to Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O. and the Department of Social Work who left no stone unturned to conduct the event in the best possible manner. The end of the first day was made colourful with cultural programmes by the students of the college. The event was noted for its serious academic reflection, social consciousness and collective hard work.


Palestra 2K19, the grand annual sports day of DBASC was conducted on 23rd and 24th January 2019 at the Don Bosco Atheletics Stadium. The events had a spectacular beginning with a colourful march past of the Departments. Mr. Nishanth Presannan, National Fencing Champion inaugurated the sports day in the presence of Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O., (Manager, DBASC), Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat (Principal, DBASC) and Fr. Shibu Davis (Vice Principal, DBASC). The students of the college participated in various athletic events under banner of their respective departments and MAC, the joined Association of B.Sc. Mathematics and BCA secured the overall championship while XAVERIA, department of B.Com. Computer and SYNERGIA, department of B.Com Cooperation came as the first and second runner ups respectively. Mr. Abin Babu (BBA), Mr. Akhil Emmanuel (B.Sc. Mathematics), Mr. Christo James (BA English), Mr. Adarsh A.T. (BCA), Mr. Alex Shaju (BCA) were chosen as the Individual Men Champions while Ms. Ajal George (M.Com) and Ms. Christy Joy (B.Sc. Mathematics), secured the individual women championships. A special word of appreciation to Mr. Nithin Kuttan, for his selfless commitment and silent hard work that triggered the day to its grand finale.


SLATE 3, the two day residential campus literature fest organized by the department of English was conducted on 18th and 19th January 2019. Around 120 students participated in the events like Best Communicator, Literary Quiz, Photography, Magazine, Short Story, Paper Presentation, Versification and Film Review. competitions. The event was inaugurated by Mr. P. Sudhakaran, Assistant Editor, Times of India in a gathering presided over by Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, Principal. Fr. Dr. Thomas K.O. delivered the benedictory address and master Prince Sunny, the student co-ordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The fest was noted for its commitment to literary excellence and the grand cultural event that concluded the fest.


The three-day Body-Mind-Heart Workshop organized for the non-Catholic students animated by a leading professional organization in Thiruvananthapuram, Blue Point Org, from Thursday to Saturday 13 to 15th December, 2018 at Don Bosco Arts & Science College motivated the participants to enhance their personality, to boost up their self-confidence, to widen their mental horizons, to heighten their emotional intelligence quotient, and to mould their physique without falling a prey to the bodily allurements. The workshop was made a treasured experience for students with exhilarating party games, stimulating group works, innovative role plays, and erudite oriented youth-specific insights. “The workshop was a golden opportunity for an inner journey and introspection. Life has become more meaningful, and I have a futuristic mindset now. It was an enlightening and empowering workshop,” said Rasha Fathima from the Department of Psychology.


The three-day spiritual retreat for the Catholic students animated by the Christeen Team from Thursday to Saturday 13 to 15th December, 2018 at Don Bosco Campus Chapel was an energizing God-experience, with the participants going for self-motivated spiritual counselling, self-assessment and self-purification, culminating in the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The retreat was made a very effervescent experience for students with appealing action songs, faith-intensifying prayer sessions, inspiring testimonies and contextualized youth-oriented insights. There were 24 counsellors for personal guidance. “The retreat was a unique experience for me. I am now strong enough to withstand the daunting challenges of life,” said Mariya Augustine from the Department of Social Work. Of 1100 students at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, 760 are Catholics.
