A two-day residential campus film festival being organised by the Department of Journalism (MCJ) at Don Bosco Arts & Science College at Angadikadavu, near Iritty in Kannur will begin on Friday, 6th October 2017. Over 600 delegates from various colleges in the State would attend the Don Bosco International Silver Screen Carnival (DISC). ‘The focus of this edition of DISC fest would be women centric films’, said Fr. Dr. Francis Karackatt, Head of the Department of Journalism and director of the fest. Besides there will be screening of world classics’, he said. Noted script writer John Paul will inaugurate the fest and will chair the sessions on film appreciation before screening the movies in four theatres with seven shows. 28 movies will be screened and ‘The President’, directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf will be shown as a night movie in the auditorium for all. The movies screened are classified into women, family, contemporary and world classics. The registration will begin in the morning and the fest will be concluded with the award nite function on Saturday. Sajitha Madathil, the award-winning actress, will be the chief guest. , Apart from screening world classics, campus short film and documentary contests, and television news presentation, television anchoring, film quiz, film review, still photography and research paper presentation on women and cinema competitions will also be held. The films screened include Mustang, Clash, Victoria, Pan’s Labyrinth, I, Daniel Blake, Land of Mine, 20th Centry Women, The Double Life of Veronique, Wild Tales, Miss Violence, Corn Island, Queen of Katwe, About Elly, Aligarh, Wolf Totem, Incendies, Leviathen, Son of Saul, Goodbye Children, ThRoom, A Man Escaped, Thithi, Double Indemnity, Day for Night Elle, and Onibaba.. The objective of the fest is to raise the ‘film sense' of the students, to usher them into world cinema beyond Malayalam movies, said Prince Augustin, Student Coordinator.
